San Francisco Lyric Chorus
The San Francisco Lyric Chorus, under the direction of Robert Gurney, makes it's home at Trinity Episcopal Church.
In March 1995, six experienced choristers and Music Director Robert Gurney came together to form a new chorus which would realize their vision of a community of singers who care about each other, the music they study and perform, and the audiences with whom they share the emotional and spiritual qualities of that music. In the following months, sixty singers came to join the group, creating this new chorus dedicated to the nurturing of singers and to excellence and expressiveness in the performance of music.
In October 1995, the San Francisco Lyric Chorus presented its triumphant début concert, performing Gabriel Fauré's Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine, as well as Louis Vierne's Solemn Mass, receiving a thunderous ovation from the enthusiastic audience.
The San Francisco Lyric Chorus is one of approximately 500 choruses in the greater San Francisco Bay Area (Monterey to Mendocino, San Francisco to Sacramento.) It is one of approximately eighty-six "performing" choruses in San Francisco, i.e., church, community, professional/semi-professional and/or specialized choruses which give public performances. It is one of 119 new choruses which began in the 1990s. |
